Top activities - Winter sports
There are many favourite activities. Do you like to have snowball fights, build snowmen, and construct winter castles or igloos? Or do you prefer to spend your time on mountains? For many sportsmen is skiing, snowboarding and skating synonymus of winter.
Allways think about the possibility to drink a hot beverage or tea.
Protect your skin - take sun creams also in winter. Sunlight reflects white snow and ice and back onto your face. Cover it up with sunscreen. Put a lip balm on your lips.
Skiing - classic, downhill, cross-country skiing. Or new types freestyl skiing, nordic skiing. Skiing is a major sport of Winter Olympic Games. Try also glacier skiing in Austria, France or Chile. What about the extreme kind of heli skiing in Greenland?
Snowboarding - Like other winter sports, this is very poular among young people. Snowboarding comes with a certain level of danger, therefore wear protective gear to enjoy fun.
Skating - is typical for indoor and as well as for outdoor activities on lakes and rivers.
Figure skating - is a popular Olympic sport. There are many exhibitions.
Speed skating - is a Olympic sport. It is popular mainly in Western and Northern Europe, USA, Canada, China and other countries.
Ski - Alpinism - Ski-alpinism is a demanding combination of cross-country skiing, mountaineering and alpine skiing. This sport needs a good physical condition. You can find many fans in Slovakia.
Ski jumping - is a dangerous sport popular mainly in Norway, Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. For ordinary people is the view from the top of the ski jump really horrible.
Sledding - or sledging. You can use what do you want. For example flat sledges, plastic discs, wooden slats and metal sledges.
Snowball fighting - do you remember your childhood? Girls against boys?
Building snowmen - this is one of the most wonderful winter children´s activity.
Ice hockey - it is very popular and fast sport. Ice hockey is sought after in cold areas. You can find fans especially in Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic and Slovakia. There are some well known leagues and comptetitions: Stanley Cup, Ice Hockey World Championships, Winter Olympic Games.
Curling - now it is an official Olympic sport. This game is most popular in Scotland (UK), Canada and USA.
