History
7th century B.C. - first mention of settlements (Hittites)
The cultural development of the Turkey was influenced by culture of Crete and Myken culture from the nearby Greek. Unfortunately, Trojan war stopped the penetration of other cultures. The other conflicts, were caused by the people of Persia, because of the large expansionism. The match about the territory of Turkey was joined by the Romans, who built their provinces here. A significant transformation of Byzantium was during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, who built Constantinople. In this town still stands magnificent cathedral Hagia Sofia from the 6th century.
11th century, 12 and 13 century A.D. is marked by the Crusade.
15th century the city of Constantinople is renamed to Istanbul and it became the capital of the Ottoman Empire for the next five centuries. The last Ottoman Sultan was Mehmed VI.
1923 - the Republic of Turkey come into existence and the capital became Ankara.
Modern history was marked with occupation of the northern part of Cyprus and a few exceptional cases. Today, Turkey is seeking the democratic development. This is reflected also in promoting tourism and building of tourist centers on the Turkish Riviera.
