Slovenia has a subcontinent climate. However it has four distinct seasons, topography form three individual climates.
North of the country has an alpine climate influenced by Atlantic and abundant rainfall or in the winter snowfall. In Alpine valleys are the temperatures during the summer mild but cold in the winter.
Coastal line and a significant part of Primorska has a mediterranean climate with hot sunny weather during the year, and mostly mild winters.
The eastern part of Slovenia has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.
Only a small part of Slovenia is washed by the Adriatic Sea. Slovenia attracts tourists for its picturesque nature especially in the mountains of Julian Alps, Karavanke and Dinaric Mountains, which are known by stalactite caves. Therefore the season lasts from early spring to late autumn. In addition, Slovenia is becoming south-after as ski resort which offers its hospitality in the winter.
Rainfalls in Slovenia reached the top in late spring and autumn. Average precipitations are about 900 mm in the east of the country and 1300 mm to 1600 mm in central parts, 1200 mm on the coast and seaside parts and finally up to 3500 mm in the Julian Alps.
Temperature vary from -2°C in the winter to 23°C in the summer. The average temperature in the capital throughout the year is 10°C.
