Iceland have one main circle road (Rout 1) around island which is 1339 km long.
Many roads have gravel surface so we suggest to be carefull. When driving on mountain roads which are often opened from beginning of July you will need a four-wheel-drive vehicle due to the wet and muddy conditions. Most of the car rentals offer Toyotas. Safety belts and headlights are a must.
Filling stations are opened to 22:00 – 23:00. Opening hours can slightly vary depending to the area. You can pay with credit cards on all of them.
