Weather in Greenland and when to go
Greenland has an arctic climate with severe winters and mild summers, especially in regions which are surrounded by the mountain crest and are sheltered from the dominant winds. The northern parts of the country, and much of the interior, have real Arctic conditions, with the temperatures which rise above freezing for short time in the summer. However, there are great variations in the weather from region to region. Temperatures do not cross 10° C (50° F) in the warmest summer days, but the temperatures in southern part of the country can rise to more than 20° C (68° F) in June, July or August. Precipitation, mostly snow, is moderately heavy around the coast.
The climate on the land is influenced by the sea around Greenland. During the summer months it is warmest and driest in the middle of the country, which lies closest to the ice sheet. In the whole country the weather is locally changeable and can vary from fjord to fjord and from one valley to the next.
Weather conditions in all parts of the country can become dangerous when there is a combination of a low temperature and a strong wind.
