A national heroine

The maid of Orleans

Saint Joan of Arc known also as The Maid of Orléans led the French army to defeat the British to several important victories during the Hundred Years War. She joined the French Army at age 17 and dressed as a man. One of the most famed battles of that days was the Battle of Orleans. She was burned at the stake only nineteen years old as a heretic against the church. Pope Benedict XV declared Joan of Arc a Saint in May of 1920. It was early five centuries later.
