Finland has a typical continental climate. Low temperatures are due to the fact that 20% of the territory is lying north of the Arctic Circle. This means that from November to April, most of the territory is covered by snow and thousands of lakes freezes and changes to the natural ice.
Spring arrives in May. The summers are short. Finnish joke is saying that in Helsinki, summer lasts from Tuesday through Thursday. July is the warmest month, with temperatures averaging around 15°C. The coldest months are January and February. Snow arrives in southern Finland in December; in northern Finland even in October. In Lapland, snow generally lasts until late April.
Finland is a country where is not very warm even in summers. But a stay in the countryside in Finland in winter or in summer is really spectacular. Variety of colors will surely captivate you.
