The best time for travelling in Austria depends on what you want to do, really. Skiing is best from between Christmas and New Year′s Eve. But it is also time at which many Austrians join the tourists on the slopes, as well as from late January to late March. This is the main season, when prices and ski traffic are higher.
The warm summer months range from May to September with the summer peak in July and August. Traveling in this country in other months as April and October is connected with cold and rainy weather. Usually the best time for sightseeing and outdoors things (walikng, hiking, climbing, national parks, sports) would be the months May and September, when routes are not exhausted, prices are lower than during the main season and weather is already or still pleasant.
