Weather and when to go
Climate of Fiji has tropic character. The larger islands have different weather patterns between the Leeward side of the islands (north west) and Windward (south east). Windward Suva, on the main island of Viti Levu, is known for its high rainfall and lush tropical scenery. The Garden Island of Taveuni lies on the east from the second largest island of Vanua Levu. The offshore islands are usually without clouds which are waved by pleasing ocean breezes away.
Because Fiji is located within the tropic of Capricorn, the weather is warm and generally sunny all year round. The summer months between November and March are warmer, more humid and less predictable. It might be clear sky and sunshine for weeks, but if a tropical depression is close, there might be heavy tropical rainfall and increasing risk of a cyclone hit. The months between May and September are usually without any rainfall, drought hitting the driest areas. Maximum summer temperatures range around 31ºC / 88ºF, with the winter averages around 29ºC / 84ºF. Rain can be expected at any time of year. The driest months are April, May, June and October.
